I really enjoy having after sessions with my clients. It allows them to slow down, relax and take it all in. The wedding jitters are gone and they can get a little more adventurous in their surroundings. Don’t get me wrong, I love adventure on a wedding day, but for those couples having a more traditional wedding, an after session can be a really fun thing.
Catherine and Vince had a beautiful wedding, but they also wanted to get some photos of them enjoying some of their favourite spots, in the Kawarthas. Our first stop was a small chapel that held a special place in Catherine’s heart. The chapel held a stained glass window, in memory of her late Grandfather. It was very special.
We followed the road to a quaint winery, where they sipped some wine and we wandered the property. I highly recommend it. =)
The day ended with a visit to Catherine’s families cottage, on Mississauga lake. Catherine and Vince entered the water and everything became magic. The way they held eachother and melted into eachothers arms was really beautiful to watch. There’s something about the layers of a white dress, under water. It has this very mysterious feeling to it. It really can’t be put into words. I want to shoot in water everyday….seriously it was the best.
They met in high school, when Diana drove to school in her mom’s Suburban. The car was on it’s last legs and started to smoke in the school parking lot. Chris saw the smoking car and walked over to check it out. He told Diana to bring the car over to the school shop and he would see if he could fix it. Nothing more became of this encounter, until years later, when Diana saw Chris at a friends house party. She recognized him as the guy that helped her with her mom’s smoking car and that’s what sparked up their conversation. She admitted that she wouldn’t have approached him, had she not recognized him. That night, she drove some friends home, as well as Chris. Her best friend and her boyfriend, told Chris he should ask Diana out, because they were both short! So he did! Chris asked Diana out and years later he admits that he saw a pretty girl in trouble. So here they are today, engaged! You could say the smoking Suburban brought them together. I suggested they have it at their wedding….
Diana and Chris met me for their engagement session at Bluffers Park, in Scarborough. We walked around the waterfront and explored the beach. It was great watching these two interact behind the camera. Chris would bring out these little smiles and laughs in Diana. He made her feel at ease and she did the same for him. The way he wrapped his arms around her and she cuddled in, was so natural and adoring. I love it when couples let go and be themselves, you really get to see the beauty and love that makes them work.
I feel grateful that I was able to capture these special moments. This is why I love what I do. Congrats Diana and Chris!
I had the pleasure of shooting my friends Katie and Chris’ wedding a few weeks ago. The ceremony took place on the picturesque beaches of Georgian Bay, with the mountains and lake as our backdrop. The wedding came to be with only a few months of planning! Katie and Chris used their mad talent to design their own unique stationery and personalized every little bit of the wedding. You know I love good branding! With the love, help and generosity from friends and family, the Sweatman wedding was a perfect day.
Katie and Chris were so very fortunate to have friends offer their cottage, to host the event. And a lovely cottage it was! The location was the perfect spot for two very outdoorsy people, who met on the hills of Georgian Peaks (the very hills that were our backdrop). The wedding was simply elegant, natural, serene, beachy and most importantly full of love! Did I mention laughter? I don’t think I have ever met two more hilarious people than Katie and Chris. You can tell from the photos that their amazing personalities shine right through.
Thank you so much Katie and Chris for letting me photograph your special day and making me laugh and cry.
I can’t tell you how lucky I am to have such amazing girlfriends. A few weekends ago, I went to my friends cottage, for a girls weekend in Collingwood. It was a cold and rainy weekend, but we love to chat! We cozied up to a “real” fire and sipped on Bengal Spice Tea. So yummy. If you haven’t tried it, try it! Thanks ladies for another wonderful girls weekend. Love you all!
Well it’s official. The long weekend is over and the summer has almost come to an end. Kids are going back to school and all I want to do is go back to the dock and swim. I love the fall. The distinct smell of the air. Everything seems fresh, crisp and new…but it also brings back memories of that feeling when you had to go back to school. I hated that feeling. These gorgeous pics captured by Morgan Maassen, really capture the mood I’m in today.
Here are some pics I took of my trip to Costa Rica. I landed in San José and met up with my husband on his tour. They took me out for an authentic Costa Rican dinner in the hills of San José. We had a beautiful view of the city…when the clouds lifted. There were fireworks in the distance and the mooing sound of a seriously persistent cow.
On my second day we woke up super early and got on a tiny plane that took us to Papagayo, on the Pacific side of Costa Rica. We stayed at the lovely Occidental Grand Papagayo and traveled around the area taking a boat tour and also tried zip lining in the rainforest.
My favorite place we visited was Tamarindo. It was recommend to me by family and friends and I am so glad that the husband and I rented a car for the day and headed there. The beach was amazing, full of surfers, cool shops and awesome restaurants. Definitely has more of that low key, surfer vibe. It was a very relaxing day on the beach, complete with body surfing and sunburns. (ps. make sure you wear a ton of sunscreen) I got sooooo burnt.
The animal life was also really neat. I saw some animals I’ve never seen before and tons of cute howler monkeys…which completely freaked my husband out! ha
All in all it was a relaxing trip and I got to spend down time with the hubby. I really loved it there and we only had great weather. The whole time it was hot and sunny, even though it was their rainy season. Can’t wait for the next adventure!
